I chose this project as a I felt it would be useful as it is centred around data visualisation which i think is quite an important part of a designers job. For me I think that idea of information architecture is an industry that will grow in the near future so I thought this project was a good way of showing how I visualise data.
Module: 104 Visual Imaging and Interaction
Timeframe: 5 Weeks
Design a diagrammatic dashboard that visualises a week of personal information.
It had to be clear, visually engaging, and built around storytelling through data.
Turning data into something that feels alive is harder than it looks.
The main hurdles were; Finding data that actually means something. Keeping it simple but still detailed and making it feel designed, not just functional.
I looked at real financial dashboards, things like stock market trackers and fintech apps, to see how they show complex data without overwhelming users. I chose this as my last project was focused around a banking brand and it felt like a nice way to further this experience in the financial sector.
The New York Stock Exchange was a big influence. The red and green boards tell you everything at a glance, no labels needed. That idea of colour doing the heavy lifting stuck with me.
