Now that I had the report written my next step was to figure out I wish to present it. We have the option to present it in various ways, such as; as a pdf, a webpage or even just a figma prototype.

When considering how I would present this report I figured I would start by finding some styles or design practices that relate to my topic of choice. I have found great difficulty in this, probably due to the nature of my report.

Neil Stevens

An idea I had that I had that calls back to our 104 class is to use the work of Neil Stevens. I remember being quite opinionated of of his work at the time purely because I felt it served the business only and not those engaging with the work. Not his work directly but what came of it, that being the Corporate Memphis illustration style that so many companies adopted. With this in mind though if I chose to present the work alongside these illustrations I think it would project quite a negative opinion of my trend which is not at all how I feel about it.

Illustrative Icons

Another idea I had came from a trend that I was considering exploring for this project. This being the rise of detailed icons. I think Airbnb is the first organisation that comes to mind when I think of 3d illustrative icons but I feel across the industry tides are shifting a little in favour of a more imaginative and living experience. I think this could pair well with my idea as a simple design feature but I feel there isn’t much of a strong link between this trend and my own.

Minimalism

Minimalism I feel has kind of been outdated for a little bit. People tend to enjoy moving parts and much like the icons I mentioned before, a little life to the design. That being said it was an area noted on our class whiteboard exercise which is the reason I came back to it. When brainstorming areas to consider for the design of my report I am trying to find things that link directly to my subject.

Minimalism was never on my radar for this report but I have surprisingly found myself feeling that it links very well to my subject. This link could be argued that in organisations placing an emphasis on measurable success there is no need for the design to be dressed up fancy or to do anything beyond what it needs to accomplish. To me this fits the bill of minimalism quite well and actually suits the context of the project, it being a report.

With this in mind I plan to proceed with minimalism being at the forefront of the design and developmental process.

Type

When searching for a suitable typeface I came across this medium article detailing the best typefaces for minimalist design so I had a look through these to see if I could find any that would work well here.
