Drink and Design @The Deers Head

The UX Society organised a drink and design night at the deers head this week. This was the first design related event I attended that was hosted by the society.

The Task

We were divided into teams. Each team was given a design task based on 3 random keywords.

My group had been given the words Travel, Women and Touchscreen.

Our group landed on an idea pretty quickly. A travel app aimed toward women that acts as a sort of safe guarding social network. It was to be a place where women could share their experiences travelling in certain destinations and report how safe, friendly and fun it was to travel in these locations as a woman. We thought “Wonder” sounded nice as a name for this product.

Sketches

We were quick to jot down early sketches and I had a blast cooperating with others in a much more relaxed setting. Here’s How some of the early sketches looked.

Reception

Once we had presented our idea to everyone it was then to be ranked against the other teams ideas. Unfortunately Wonder came in second place. That being said a team comprised totally of women said that they loved the idea and it is something they would use when planning a trip.

Mock Up

I was quite pleased to hear that people were interested in the idea so I decided to bring it a step further by creating a quick mockup of what Wonder might have looked like. I created this by focusing on key themes we discussed as a team when envisioning the product. Things such as the colour palette, type and illustration were all mentioned but never got to be realised. You can see the mock up below.
