We have been tasked with creating a Music App for a mobile device.
I decided to breakdown some popular music apps to see whats working and whats not. Let’s have a look.
I found it to be very beneficial to perform this competitor analysis. I discovered some features I didn’t know existed and found a new appreciation for some Music Apps which I would have otherwise condemned, especially Youtube Music.
From doing this I would like to extract the things that I think these Apps do right and use those to develop a concept for my own Music App.
A big one for me was Appropriate Design, which I believe Youtube excelled at within their incorporation of photography and video.
An obvious one would be to build on the success of Spotify Wrapped, ****if I can find a unique way to leverage user data into an experience I feel as though that could build the foundation for a very interesting concept.
I think Apple do simple design really well, to me they are a kind of digital switzerland, in that their design is always straight forward, useful and sharp. I think ultimately what makes a users experience good is successfully in performing their task, perhaps without even noticing or considering the UI. I hope I can implement this thinking to my music app in hopes of providing a seamless and intuitive experience.
I wanted to brainstorm some loose approaches I could take when developing my music app. I want the concept to be sound before I make any design decisions as I feel if I try to achieve too much it may fall flat.
