Point, Line & Plane

To begin the year we started by looking at the fundamentals of digital design. Here we covered Point, Line and Plane. We explored how using just these simple components we can create complex and interesting designs. We were even tasked to do so.

Here’s an example of a simple point design using perfect circles to create a pair of menacing eyes.

Figma & Notion

This was my first time ever using figma and I found it to be super intuitive and enjoyable. I am excited to learn more about the software and see what I’m able to create with it.

We also were introduced Notion for the first time. Here we are to record a weekly blog of our learning and upload any relevant work. Notion seems like a great tool for the job Ive never seen anything quite like it used in a work/study environment.

IDEO

In class we watched a great video about a design company called IDEO. They were tasked with re-designing the shopping cart. The level of teamwork displayed within IDEO’s design team was incredible and taught me a lot about how much of a collaborative industry design is. They even touched on User Research by asking customers what they would improve upon if the shopping cart were to be re-designed. Surprisingly they ended up designing the now common place hand scanner and I believe the video was dated a long time before they ended up being introduced into supermarkets.

Following up on our Point, Line and Plane exercise we were given our first project. To create 5 frames as a simple storyboard or animated sequence based on the choice of a few keywords. Im eager to get stuck into figma and get started.

I didn’t learn too much this first week but I got a taste of whats to come and I cannot wait.
