This week we focused a lot on composition. I am quite familiar with composition as I have some experience with photography so some things translate quite well to digital design.
Within composition there are many principals, such as visual weight; this is when something stands out more than another aspect of a design to grab our attention.

We learnt about the Golden Ratio and its relevance in design. Ive been familiar with the golden ratio for a long time but I had never seen it implemented this way within design. Using it as a spacing scale is a really fascinating idea to me.

We were tasked to create a music app wireframe using the golden ratio as a spacing scale. Here are my initial designs:

I am quite happy with these designs as it was my first attempt at creating any sort of UI. I am particularly impressed by the circular one as it feels very unique to me and I would like to see it fully imagined.
Following these basic wireframes we then had to add text and image to them in order to bring them to life. Here’s what I came up with:

I was really happy with these designs as I am still very new to figma. I felt the first design on the left was a little basic but it doesn’t look bad. I decided I wanted to come up with something a little more unique and from there I came up with the design on the right. It definitely feels more special to me.
I learnt some new things this week. I learnt about the importance of the golden ratio and its relationship with design. I improved my knowledge of figma, which I really enjoyed and I learnt what I like to see in my own designs, I think that would be something different, something new.
