Today we looked at something a little bit different, that being freelancing. It is not something super popular amongst the UX crowd but as a designer it is an area that might come up down the line.
A Project Guide to UX Design by Russ Unger and Carolyn Chandler
This book was recommended as a useful resource for understanding how to structure UX projects, manage clients, and deliver work effectively. I’ve added it to my reading list as it seems like a solid guide to bridging the gap between education and professional practice.
We discussed the basics of tenders and proposals for freelance work. While the session didn’t go into deep detail, I realised that clear documentation is crucial when pitching for projects. Having a structured approach can save time and reduce misunderstandings.

When preparing quotes for freelance projects, it’s important to include key elements:
Overview – a summary of the project and objectives.
Scope – what is included (and what isn’t) in the work.
Assumptions – expectations about client input or constraints.
Deliverables – clear definition of what will be produced.
Ownership and Rights – who owns the work and how it can be used.
Pricing and Payments – clear financial agreements.
Sign Off – formal acceptance from the client.
