Unfortunately I was Ill for this week but it sounds right up my alley so I had a nosey at my classmates notion blogs to see what was covered this week.
We’ve seen Ronan around class a few times, I even attended one of his auto layout classes back in semester one. This week he gave a talk about his experience in the industry. From what I can tell he touched on the relevance of the size of company you may choose to work at and how this might influence your career path and even specialisation. Speaking of, he discussed the benefits of being a specialist and how it helped him to not only progress but to later develop a plethora of different skills, as he was able to leverage this experience in order to learn new skills.
It seems that Ronan introduced the class to something called “Welcome to The Jungle” which is a tailored live job board of sorts. I signed up and had a look at the jobs on offer. Only one met my criteria. A Motion Designer role for Insider.
This seems like it could be a great tool for finding potential placement or grad roles but there doesn’t seem to be too much available when all my niches are applied. It is something i will definitely keep an eye on just in case.

Whilst I didn’t get to attend this class the topic is something I give great consideration, I’ve had many jobs in the past and feel as though I am bringing a relatively professional attitude to class. I love the idea of learning these interpersonal skills that allow oneself to thrive in these environments, so I am a little bummed that I missed this class but I guess that says something about the importance of attendance. Hopefully I can dig up some more resources like Welcome to the Jungle, I’ve spent some time refining my linkedIn page recently to hopefully appear on some recruiters radars as placement approaches, so more of these resources would be great to grow my reach.
