Art History

In our first class for UXD102 we looked back on some important artists and works that have inspired the design industry and even changed design as we know it.

We looked at everything from album covers, large scale print making, cave drawings and more.

It is an interesting foot to start off on as we don’t often associate contemporary design with the likes of cave drawings but in retrospect are they really so different?

Type Specimen Poster

We were given our first project, to create a poster for a type face. The poster is to be a type specimen.

Here are some examples of the kind of thing we are expected to create.

I am eager to begin researching for this project as I have never made anything like a poster before, I already have many ideas brewing in my mind.

I like the idea of creating a kind of sinister poster for a type face, as though the type is evil. I believe Paul showed us one that was similar in class but I cant quite remember it.

Reflection

As far as first days go this was was very enjoyable. Paul seems very passionate about type which is quite funny but also a good sign in a teacher. Our project seems fun too so I plan to get started on that as soon as possible. I’ve never really delved into type before but after even such a small glimpse I can see it’s a bucket of worms in its own right, and hopefully something I can master by the end of this course.
